What Are Sativas, Indicas, And Hybrids
The cannabis plant comes in thousands of different types or strains. These strains are classified into categories based on similar characteristics they possess. In medical applications, sativas, indicas, and hybrids produce effects that compliment different medical conditions. Below are brief explanations of these three categories:
SATIVAS/SATIVA DOMINANT: These types of cannabis plants are taller and lankier in stature with a skinny, razor edge leaf structure. Their flowering clusters grow along tall stems, and are generally less dense in mass. They provide patients with an uplifting cerebral effect. Because of their less lethargic affects, they are often recommended for patients with an active lifestyle or who have tasks to accomplish. A sativa-dominant strain has the characteristics of a pure sativa.
INDICAS/INDICA DOMINANT:These types of cannabis plant grow stouter and are bushy in stature with a wide leaf structure. Their flowers grow denser and are more defined in form. They tend to produce a stronger body effect that can make patients feel sleepy or exhibit low energy. These medicines are effective for deep pain afflictions, and are known for their lasting affects. Indica dominant strains possess the qualities of pure indica strains.
HYBRID STRAINS:Thousands of years of cross-breeding has resulted in many strains that possess both qualities of indica and sativa plants. These are classified as hybrids, and can range in effect between the sativa and indica extremes. Many patients use hybrids for their well-rounded medicinal properties.
